What Should I Bring to a Hot Yoga Class?

If you’re coming to your first hot yoga class, it’s normal to wonder what you actually need.

The short answer is: not much.

A few simple essentials will make your experience more comfortable.

The Essentials

There are three things to think about before you arrive:

A yoga mat - You’re welcome to bring your own mat.

If you’d prefer to use a studio mat, that’s absolutely fine too.

A full-length towel (this part matters) If you’re using a studio mat, you’ll need a towel that fully covers it for the whole class.

This is for hygiene, and it also helps prevent slipping once you start to sweat.

You can bring a large towel, similar in size to a beach towel, as long as it covers the whole mat. We recommend a specific Hot Yoga Mat Towel as these are designed for this and stay in place more easily. We have these available at the studio if you'd to buy one here.

A small hand towel on its own won’t be enough. If you don’t have a full-length towel, you’ll need to bring your own mat instead.

Water Bring a bottle you can keep nearby. You may not need to drink constantly, but it’s good to have it there.

What to Wear

Wear something you can move in comfortably.

Light, breathable clothing tends to work well. For some people that’s shorts and a t-shirt, for others it’s leggings and a vest. There’s no expectation around how you should look.

Comfort is what matters.

What People Often Forget

A couple of small things can make a difference:

Hydrating beforehand Drinking water before class can help you feel more comfortable once you’re in the heat.

Electrolytes Some people like to replenish electrolytes afterwards, especially if they’re new to hot yoga or not used to sweating this much. We have these in studio at £1 each.
